Beyond These Stars: How to Expand the Atmosphere
The quick answer
Bring water into brown or dead areas, improve the ground with compost, then plant Saplings. Forests expand the atmosphere and absorb pollution, but the water channel must be completed first.
Extend water before planting
Plan a channel from existing water towards the dry area you want to develop. Let the Landscaper finish the whole job, then complete it so the barrier is removed and water enters the channel.
A drawn task is not a finished river. If the ground remains dry, check the job’s completion state before repeating the plan.
Improve the ground and plant Saplings
Once water reaches the area, use Compost to improve suitable ground, then plant Saplings. Forests help expand breathable space and absorb pollution.
The supply chain matters:
- Produce Compost in a Compost Heap.
- Let the Landscaper apply it to eligible land.
- Supply Saplings for planting.
- Check the new forest and the atmosphere boundary.
When expansion stalls
Check whether water really connects to the target, whether the ground can take compost, and whether the jobs have workers and inputs. Underwater tiles cannot be composted.
Do not expect a fixed number of extra atmosphere tiles per tree. Plan around the actual water, terrain and atmosphere boundary shown in your settlement.
